What They Will Likely Ask

Say your door jammed on the way out this morning. A provider will want a clear picture. Expect questions like these:

• What happened right before the problem started?
• Does the door move at all, or is it stuck?
• Did you hear a bang, a scrape or a grinding sound?
• Is the door heavy when you lift it by hand?
• How old is the door, and has anyone repaired it before?
• Is the opener still running?

A photo of the springs, tracks or damage can help. If you have an older home, mention any past work you remember.

Questions to Ask the Provider

You are allowed to ask plenty. Good ones include:

• Can I get the quote in writing before work begins?
• Does the price include parts and labor?
• If this is spring work, will you replace both springs or just one?
• Will you check track alignment and the rollers while you are here?
• What upkeep do you suggest after the repair?
• Is there a warranty on parts or labor, and what does it cover?
